Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

My employer overpaid me, do I have to pay it back?

I have worked for a publicly held corporation for 13 years. (Net worth approx.400 billion)Sixteen months ago I accepted a management position. At the time I was working 30 hours per week due to a small child at home. With the promotion I began working 37.5 hours per week. Today I was notified by Human Resouces that I have been overpaid to the tune of 26,000 in the past 16 months due to a data entry error. Seems they calculated my new earnings based on a 30 hour work week instead of 37.5hours which made my hourly wage about 10.00 more per hour than they agreed to pay. I never caught it since my pay is autodrafted into my checking account and all I do is look at the net amount to see that it agrees with what the bank shows was deposited. I feel like an idiot. Am I required by law to repay this money?

Yes, unless you want to be sued.
