Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
fired from job.
I was with a local finace company on and off since 12-22-1999. Every time I left they would ask me to come back. On the last time I came back I was told by president of company they always liked my job and work I did. Things went for a year, in April of this year I was out for birth of my child and when coming back was issued a written warning becuase office was not producing told I had 5 days to get in line or would be terminated or demoted. I was terminated at the end of May for loan volume when I called the president of company told me it was his decision and that was it. Can I seek some type of compensation for this?

Re: fired from job.
I am not sure what you mean by "compensation." If you have a contract, it might mention what you are entitled to as far as compensation or severence. Otherwise, you are generally entitled to compensation for time worked, and perhaps commissions, depending on how you were paid. You might be entitled to some unemployment compensation, if you file for it. Otherwise, at-will employees are generally entitled to nothing just for being terminated, absent an unlawful purpose. If you were terminated for poor performance (you or your offcie), that is not an unlawful purpose.
