Statutes of limitation apply to when a lawsuit may be pursued, not when an employee may be fired. If the employee in question is an employee at-will, meaning he has no contractual term of employment, he/she may be fired for no or any non-discriminatory reason, regardless of how long ago the reason occurred.

Employers can generally terminate any employee, any time, for any or no reason (except where there is a contract, or where there is unlawful discrimination). Thus, the answer is no - they don't even need a reason at all.
