Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Implied salary?

I recently moved from California to GA after accepting a job. My manager told me during the interview that I would receive accelerated promotions and told me the dates and amounts of those promotions (which were to come in December). My department has recently merged with another department and the management of the new department isn't agreeing to uphold those promotions, saying it goes against thier policy. I would not have accpeted this job without the accelerated promotions. Can the new management do this? Are the promotions like an implied contract?

Re: Implied salary?

It is impossible to tell for certain from the information you have provided. Generally, promises of future compensation, promotions, etc. are difficult to enforce. However, if the promises were sufficiently definite as to job position, date of promotion, conditions for promotion, salary, duties, etc., you may have a claim. You will probably need to speak with an attorney regarding all the circumstances of the job acceptance to get a legal opinion about this matter.
