Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
If you are an independent contractor but you are purchasing health insurance through the company group plan and you resign or are let go, do they have any obigation to allow you to continue purchasing insurance until you transition or find other coverage? The company does NOT contribute any money toward my coverage. I am assuming COBRA rights do not apply to independent contractors. Also, this company has not paid me since September 2010 and manages to pay everyone else on top of personal extravagances. Everytime I ask for payment she insults me and treats me disrespectfully. I have never been paid by her without resorting to begging. I am in the middle of some serious health issues and cannot be without health coverage. Do I have any rights? Also, how do I collect the outstanding balance due to me. Thanks

No one here knows the terms of the policy and health plan, or whether COBRA applies to you. You should have the paperwork, where the answer might be found. You can also contact the insurer to ask about converting. These are questions you need to investigate.
