Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Job class

I have a co-worker that is interest in applying for a recent retired employee job. My question is that on our job we get paid according to our grade. This lady retired on a grade 18 and my co-worker is on a grade 18. Our supervisor said that he will have to take a pay cut because the grade is a 18 but, what makes the difference is the job class.Even though the retired co-worker and my co-worker have the same grade the job class is different. Can this be done since they are on the same grade? Why can't he make a lateral move?

Thanks,

co-worker job blues

Re: Job class

Absent a contract, and assuming the employer is following basic requirements such a minimum wage, employment in Georgia is "at will" and under the terms proposed by the employer. IN other words, your friend is free to accept the offer, or not. If your friend has a contract (binding employment manual, etc.), that may be relevant, but HE needs to be the one to have it checked out based on his specific situation.
