Laws pertaining to employment contracting in the State of Georgia
Some years ago Microsoft settled a case in the State of Washington with contractors who had been under the employment of a contacting firm for over a year. The case was settled after the courts determined that the contractors were denied benefits ect. I have been employed by a contracting firm for 2 years at a major fortune 50 firm in Atlanta. Many of my younger co-workers have been brought in as perm employee's while I and other older workers are still waiting even though I have been here for 2 years or mor, most of my younger counterparts have been here for 1 year or less and have been given positions. Are there laws in Georgia similar the to the one in the State of Washington protecting long term contractors. It was of my understanding that after one year you must be made perm?

There is no law that requires a company to employ independent contractors after a certain length of time; however, there may an issue regarding whether you are legally an independent contractor or an employee. There are a number of factors, e.g. set hours, office space, uniforms.
