Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

I live in the Uk and have been working for a company in Atlanta for the last couple of years all was fine until January this year. Basically I have not been paid since and i calculate that i am due $192,500 in commission and wages. I have a signed contract with the company and the owner says he will pay, but he has been saying this since march and i suspect he has no intention of doing this.

Being in the Uk also makes it extremely expensive from me to hire a attorney to deal with this for me.

Does anyone have any advice?

Does the contract have a "choice of law" provision; that is, does it state what laws apply? Also, are you considered a Georgia employee or a UK employee? If Georgia laws apply and/or you are considered a Georgia employee, you may be able to file a claim here. If you file suit here, you may be required to come to the US for a deposition and possible court dates, but the vast majority of the work can be accomplished by your attorney in the U.S.

As to the dispute itself, most of that depends on the written contract and what you did to earn the wages and commission, which would need to be reviewed by an attorney. This review and a demand letter might not be as expensive as you think. If it goes into litigation, it would be more expensive, but some attorneys will work on blended rates, so the fees you pay may be reduced. A blended rate is where an attorney takes a lower hourly fee and a lowered contingency fee when you recover by judgment or settlement.

I would be happy to discuss this matter further with you if you would like to contact me.
