Medical Privacy At Work

Is there a law that forbids an employer to reveal medical information about an employee to other employees. For instance a drug rehab admission or AIDS.?

The Federal Privacy Act prohibits the release of this type information. There are also several tort causes of action like invasion of privacy which may apply depending on the circumstances.

Generally, such information should remain confidential. However, there may be some situations where other employees have a "need to know" certain medical information about other employees. However, these situations are very limited.
