Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Offer of employment withdrawn

I was informed today that my employment offer had been withdrawn. ''This is to advise you that our offer of employment is being withdrawn and your application for employment is being denied. In evaluating your application, the consumer reporting agency listed below provided us with the information which, in whole or in part, influenced our employment decision.'' I had contacted the agency which Honeywell had utilized (HireRight) out of Irvine, Ca, today 3/2/07 and they informed me today that my file investigation had not been completed due to awaiting case file from Orange County. Can Honeywell prematurely withdraw employment prior to my investigation being completed? Please help. I was looking forward to this job and I waited over 2 months for a reply. Don't I have a right to recieve an explanation from Honeywell Inc?

Re: Offer of employment withdrawn

Absent a contract, an employer is free to terminate (employment or an offer), just as the individual can change his/her mind about a job offer (without explanation). There are very few exceptions not raised by the facts you stated. As for an explanation, it looks like they provided one, accurate or not. You certainly should get all copies of all reports, as well as credit reports from all agencies to see what is on there that could harm future employment.
