Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Pay Rate Decreased After Receiving First Paycheck

I recently started a new job as an hourly employee but I was quoted an annual salary with my job offer. After 4 weeks of working (and after already receiving a paycheck) I was informed that they made a mistake in computing my hourly rate and they will be decreasing my rate of pay. I never received an offer letter in writing. I wanted to know if this is legal. Can the company, after already paying me a paycheck, lower my rate of pay?

Re: Pay Rate Decreased After Receiving First Paycheck

You are not addressing the issues. You had a certain hourly rate when you started and presumably knew what it was. The check you received was either the hourly rate you expected (and agreed upon by starting the work), or something else. If the mistake was in their favor, you would probably expect them to correct it. It goes both ways. Not cooperating would probably be a quick ticket out of the job.
