Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
Personal involvement in employment
I had a personal situation occur on the weekend. A phone call was placed to my daughters ex singing a silly song that was inappropriate but not threatening any bodily harm. This comes after years of being harassed by her and me never responding. She went to my place of employment and played the voicemail to the board of directors and demanded me to be reprimanded. They sent me a letter in full detail of how this was unacceptable. If I were to cuss out a grocery store worker would that be reason to reprimand me too? Has my employer stepped over the line of personal and professional? What are my rights in this situation?

Re: Personal involvement in employment
Employers generally have an interest in the character of the people who work for them. Obviously, the level of interest varies by employer. Your "rights" are found in any employment contract or perhaps an employee handbook. If employment is "at will" then employees can be terminated for any or no reason, with very few exceptions not raised in your post. That includes termination when they do not think the employees character or actions represent the company, or they think it could spill over to work -- even if they are wrong. Yes, I suspect many people would be fired if the employer witnessed the event you describe.
