Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Relocation Payback Agreement

I was hired by a company located in GA and they paid for my relocation expenses. I signed an agreement that if I left voluntarily within one year I would have to pay them back.

I no longer want to work for this company but with this huge expense hanging over my head I feel I'm stuck.

Do I have any recourse to get out from under, or at least significantly lessen the debt?

Re: Relocation Payback Agreement

The terms you agreed to would control. So, if the contract reads that have to pay them back, you will be required to.

Re: Relocation Payback Agreement

No one here can speculate about the specific terms of your agreement or other relevant circumstances, such as whether you have a defense to the claim. You may want to try to negotiate a lesser amount, or a payment plan. Otherwise, if they have a valid claim they may try to collect. These are things one should consider when entering into contracts.
