sensitive information lost
My Human Resources department has asked for all of my I-9 information again. They want to make more copies of my social security card, passport and other documents that I gave them 6 years ago when I was hired. When I asked why they needed this again, they stated that they no longer had the ones filled out 6 years ago. Whether they were lost or what is not known. Do I need to give this info to them again? If they misplaced my info, do I have any remedy against them for losing my information that can be used for less than legal activities?

Most people find it to their benefit to cooperate with their employer, rather than being antagonistic and uncooperative. You provide no reason why you should not cooperate with a simple request, and this is not a forum to complain about your employer asking you for a copy of relevant document. You have no "remedy" for speculating about what could happen to lost documents. There is nothing wrong with being concerned about private information, and it is OK to ask what happened, but not being cooperative about what appears to be a simple request for a copy of documents often leads to adverse employment action down the road.
