Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Suspension from airline

My husband works for an airline as a lead mechanic. Halway through his shift, his elboes were hurting and he asked a fellow employee if he anything that would help the pain. This employee apparently told management that my husband was asking for drugs. They called him to the office, told him they had a sworn statement that he was trying to get drugs and took his badge and escorted him off property. He asked to be tested and they refused. He does not drink or do drugs other than those prescribed by his doctor, non of which are a pain reliever. He also offered to go to a rehab to be tested for drug problems, just to save his job. I asked him why he offered this and he said he was just so shocked he didn't know what to say. He figured that a rehab would be able to clear him for sure. This whole thing has him a mess. They told him he is suspended and can be terminated. Can he lose his job because of some idiot reporting him for asking for an Advil????? He has worked there for 6 years and is 45 years old. And he DOES NOT DO DRUGS!

Re: Suspension from airline

The airlines - especially airlines - have every right and justification to investigate possible drug use and to remove a possible user from responsibilities. If there is a contract in place that covers such incidents, he should refer to that.
