Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

termination part time employee

My son was recently fired from his part time job. The reason was he did not show up for work. When he checked the schedule, he only had one day, which is the norm for him. When we as a family walked into the restaurant that he works at for dinner, they told him he had been scheduled to work. (a 2.5 hour shift) which has never occurred before. A typical shift is 4-5 hours. When he showed up for work the next day, he was fired immediately. Up until that point it his record had been spotless. He was told and we were also that he was the best worker they'd ever had. He was never reprimanded, written up or given any negative feedback. Other kids had been given three written warnings for infractions before being fired. The assistant manger told him the district manager made him terminate him. It sounds so fishy, as how would the district manager even find out in less than 24 hours. If someone was going to skip an alleged shift, would they be in the restaurant having dinner? My son is an honor student, varsity athlete with over 100 service hours a year, he is humiliated

Re: termination part time employee

Most employment is at-will and an employee can be terminated for any or no reason, "fishy" or not (with few exceptions such as race, gender, not mentioned in your post).
