Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
Terminiation by design
I have been working for a local hospital for 12 years. Our marketing/public affairs staff consists of 8 women and two men, I being the 50 year old male. The new director has begun a team concept of work. I am the media relations and community relations person. I recently received my annual evaluation and was placed on 90 probations because I am not a "team" player. This situation not only deals with the working climate, but also delves into the area of eating lunch with the staff, partying with the staff, sharing their private lives with the staff and so on. Most of the women are allowed to perform other outside business activities during regular business hours with no reprimand, yet if I were to do it, I would be punished. My evaulation consitsted of nothing but negatives about my past years work performance and none of the positives. Also, something my wife did that is not related too my my job was noted on the performance evaulation. My probation is based on improvement that makes my "teammates" responsible for the outcome. If I do not improve, I will terminated. Is this legal? Can a person be railroaded into termination by a willing staff? This is a thumbnail review of the situation, but any help is appreciated.
