Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

told laid off dept. closing

I was laid off work(no notice) this morning from a supervisor position''because of lack of work and the department closing'' of an indutrial contract work company. A client tried to contact me there this afternoon and was told I was out of town, and when he said he could wait for my return he was told by another person that he was taking over my department and work . Also that nothing had been disbanded and it is business as usual. Is there any recourse? also because I was told the reason for the lay off was the lack of work/department closing I have mention this to several people which now may cause a reliabilty and trust issue for me. Any advise? Thank you

Re: told laid off dept. closing

First apply for your state unemployment compensation. After it is locked in-no appeals available by the company contact a good employment attorney, like myself, to determine if your lay off was a pretext for discrimination. This could be age, race, sex, religion, national origin, etc.

You have 180 days to file an EEOC charge.
