Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
Unemployment benefits
I recently left a job as law clerk because I was offered a better job by another law firm. I discussed this with old boss and he knew it was because of a salary increase and MEDICAL BENEFITS which were not available at my present place of employment. He said he could not match the offer. I worked on my new job 3 weeks and was fired because I didn't have enough experience. I filed for unemployment and was denied because I quit my first job. I have option to appeal. Are there any grounds upon which I can win this appeal? Staying at the old job meant no advance in pay and NO MEDICAL BENEFITS.

Re: Unemployment benefits
You can certainly appeal, but the bottom line is that you willingly quit the job. I cannot imagine the hearing officer will be persuaded to reconsider because your decision was based on a better offer and fringe benefits. That decision was made at your own risk.
