Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

I work for a church but my wife and I are filing for divorce. This is of course unacceptable by the church because of their beliefs. I have been informed if we go through the divorce I will be terminated. Do they have the right to terminate me for something in my personal life like that?

Absent a contract stating otherwise, or very limited instances of discrimination, there is no general entitlement to a job and an employee can be terminated for any or no reason. Certainly, most churches or religious organizations (or charities, etc.) consider the character of employees and how that compates to their beliefs. That should be expected.
