Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
I work in a small business, an animal hospital, with 5 employees and 2 owners. All employees have been there long term, 7-16 years. Being a small operation that is very successful in the area, being busy constantly and a wonderful place to work. During client checkout, the vet gives the front desk (any of the employees, no designated receptionist here) a handwritten paper with the items to charge for which is in turn entered into computer and the client checked out. During sick patient visits, charges are often entered into the computer at different times or even on different days. All employees use the computer to enter charges, others may check out clients or advise the others what charges are to be entered... No one here has a specific "job" such as front desk, technician, surgical assistant... Sometimes a charge is left off in error and the client not charged, this happens maybe twice a week. Recently we had a more significant charge missed of possibly $150 to one patient. One owner of the clinic is not happy with this because bottom line it comes out of their "pocket". We have been advised that next time anything is missed we will have that amount deducted from our paycheck. I would like to know if this is legally allowed to be done. Thank you!!

As long as you still receive at least the minimum wage, yes.
If you have an employer behaving that way, start looking for another employer.
