Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

I've worked for a company for a little over a month. My payday was last Friday and my boss has given me every excuse in the book as to why he can't pay me. Says something happened with bank account. Now he's not answering or returning my calls. I live in Georgia, what can I do?

You can send your lawyer written demand for payment (do it by certified or overnight mail so you can prove he received it). If your employer doesn't pay up, you can sue your employer for breach of contract -- you agreed to do work, he agreed to pay you for it.

Best of luck.*****The above is for informational purposes and does not create an attorney-client privilege.******

Your first step is to start looking for a new job, because that is a sign the company is not doing well and the future does not look good. Then you exhaust all possibilities in-house to get the money, and then call the GA Dept of Labor to see if they can assist for free. If none of that works over a few days, you can try a lawyer or a lawsuit, but how much money is at issue? You are already out the money, so paying a lawyer may or may not get you more than you pay the lawyer. Of course, the other detail is that a letter from a lawyer or a lawsuit means that your job is likely over immediately. Again, the first and best step - start looking for a new job, even if you ultimately work things out at the current place.
