Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

i worked for larry's giant subs in jesup,ga for 3 and a half months and he paid me with personal checks i asked him over and over to put me on payroll and he said it would be cheaper not to so i quit can i still claim taxes from the checks he paid me with?
