Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
Wrongful Firing
I worked for a company for 5-years, when I joined the co. they told me a certain individual did not like me because I made almost as much money as she did. Another employee told me I acted just like a former employee who thought she was better than everyone else. I am a very happy, nice and fair person. I did a separate job from the other workers of their dept. and they also were cosistently hostile toward me. My boss did nothing. Clearly they never gave me chance by and was constantly harrassed and picked on for 5 years. I am 54. I began the change about a year ago. I never complained about it. Their hostility grew and my boss never did anything about it. Many incidents were cited. I expanded my role with the co. in many directions. I doubled my responsibilities the last 6-months I was there. I was afraid and nervous all the time and I tried to get my boss to talk to me, but one day he just called me in a fired me. They told the unemployment service my behavior was not up to their company standards and I had lousy moral. I shot holes in their accusations with my response in the hearing and won my unemployment. I'd like to sue for torts or intentional infliction of emotional distress. Life has been hard since. ???

Re: Wrongful Firing
Unless you were fired for race, religion, gener or age, and can prove it, or unless you had a contract, Georgia employment is "at will." You can be fired for any reason or no reason at all, fair or unfair.
