Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
wrongful termination
I was recently fired for false reasons. I had driven 13 hours from Atl. GA to DA. TX., and slept only 4 hours when I was awakened by the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. I called my employer to inform them that I was going to the hospital. When I was able, I drove myself to the nearest hospital and, enduring excruciating pain, waited for treatment. A few hours later a manager from the company came to the E.R. and took the truck keys and told me I was going home on a bus. 5 hours later the same mgr. came to the E.R. to give me a ride to the bus terminal after stopping at the office to retrieve my personal belongings which had been removed from the truck. They did pay for my ticket, but not for shipping costs of my tools. My job as a telecommunications foreman was the only income for my family and the medical benefits were essential for my wife's quality of life. Since my termination, I have been evicted and medical benefits were cut off before the end of the month, causing even more dire consequences for my wife. We have no one to turn to for financial assistance, nowhere to live, and no money.
Would a lawyer help me in this matter?

Re: wrongful termination
Job #1-Go and apply for your unemployment compensation. The ER will certainly appeal your benefits so you will need to hire an attorney like myself to assist you. The UI process will provide you more info as to the reasons for your termination and whether you have a cause of action against your ER. www.georgiaunemploymentlawyer.com
Re: wrongful termination
You can see a lawyer to provide much more information, but you don't say how you were fired for "false reasons," or why the termination was otherwise unlawful. Most employment in Georgia is "at will" and an employee can be terminated for any or no reason (with the exception of a few categories of discrimination, or whether a contract is applicable).
