Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
Wrongful termination?
I was terminated on 7.18.08 by my previous employer for ''Poor job performance/Failure to sustain Performance Improvement Plan''. I was placed on the PIP on 05.01.07 and was removed on 07.01.07. The circumstances leading to the PIP aren't credible, the employer has no documentation on the majority of the incidents that they called out on the PIP. As of my last evaluatin 3.20.08 I was considered a ''Valuable member of the team'', with talks of receiving a merit raise to compensate for the lost wages incurred because of the PIP. Is there any recourse? I am in the state of Georgia and worked for one of the largest retailers in the state.

Re: Wrongful termination?
Employment in Georgia is generally at-will, and absent a contract providing otherwise, employees can be terminated for any reason or no reason (with few exceptions for discrimination). The employee has the same general right to leave and seek employment elsewhere.
