Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

wrongfull termination slander

I have worked for a mid size commercial builder for 7 years. During a recent remodel job I asked a contractor if I could take some copper pipe (which is normally thrown away) he told me I could. During the removal a coolent line was severed. The owner of my company says that he considered it stealing even though I was given permission to take the pipe. He said he could not get the contracting engineer to admitt he gave me permission, so he would have to terminate me. My separation papers state ''negligence in performance of work'' '' diverted proceeds from sale of materials from job site''. I have a 23 year unblemished record in this industry, and unlike other superintendents have not caused the company thousands of dollars to correct errors; in addition, I know other superintendents have removed items that were to be thrown away. My direct supervisor a project manager implictly informed me ''if they are throwing anything away and you want it take it home''

The owner of the company terminated me so as not to upset his largest client.I now feel that my ability to provide for my family has been impeached; I cannot in good faith lie to a future employer about my last employer. How do I stand legally? I am the sole breadwinner, help?

Re: wrongfull termination slander

I'm not sure what your question is. You could sue them for their breach of the contract if they improperly terminated you, but the strength of your case would depend on the terms of your employment.
