Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia

Breaking apartment lease

Broke lease before it expired. Went to court & Apt. people didn't show. Judge dismissed the case. I have paperwork stating the dismissal. But I am still in collections with this apartment complex - and it's been 6 years after the fact. What can I do to get myself out of collections???

Re: Breaking apartment lease

A dismissal means the lawsuit goes away, not the debt or collection efforts. You didn't win the case, it was dismissed without a decision. Beyond that, we don't know what the dismissal says, and whether it was with prejudice. To answer your question about getting out of collections, the first option is clear - pay the debt, whatever it may be.
