Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia

House Lease

I took a job and moved to a home near my job. Two months after I moved in a position opened up that I had applied for in another state which paid much more. The new job will pay for my move but that is all. Can I break my lease without paying the 10 months remaining on the lease? A side note this is a new house and my wife has been sick starting about a week after we moved in she had cancer about 7 years ago and smells make her sick. She keeps saying that there are smells comming from the cabinets and rugs I don't notice anything but I'm at work for 10 hours a day and she is home all day.

Re: House Lease

You refer to a lease, but say nothing about its terms. Does it say that you can terminate it for a new job? Most landlords do not assume responsibility for a tenant's job or other unrelated personal choices, for obvious reasons. As for the smell, landlords are also used to tenants wishing to move finding other flaws or reasons to try to get out of the lease (ie, smells, security, small repair issues). The best option is usually to early terminate pursuant to the terms of the lease, or a separate written agreement, and not leave behind a mess that could include a lawsuit or negative credit entry.
