Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia
What jurisdiction does a Justice of the Peace have?
In February of 2004, I gave my landlord 60 days notice that we had to move to LA because as he knew, my husband could not find employment in GA. My lease was up in July of 2004.
He called and harrassed and threatened me for several months and I didn't hear from him.
I was served with suite papers and he is suing me for the rest of the lease. (he finally rented it, so he says, June 15th of 2004)
My question is, and the Justice of the Peace, (the only person who would even touch this) ignores my question as to how she could enforce a GA lease and yet telling me under the LA lease law, I broke the lease and I owe him the money. What she seems to be ignoring is that the lease is not in LA but in GA?
Can she do this?
Thank you!
