Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia
I have a landlord is charging me for the damages due to rat infestation has done. Our neighbors and the lady that stayed there before us said there has always been a rodent problem at our residence. When we moved in there was a rat trap in the basement near the washer and dryer area. The Pest control person came and stated to landlord that we were dirty. We have not been dirty even the lady came to inspect and seen it was clean. As soon as my husband asked to speak with the pest control guy he said my husband threatened him and refuse to come back to treat then we get bill. This is after 2months after the last treatment. The only thing they had them do is plug the hole outside and they never check attic that we said we heard noises were in and the rodent is still in the home. We have been buying traps and using ammonia when cleaning. I was told we would not be charged the only thing they said is that my in home trash can needed a lid. I got a lid. When the pest control came by in afternoon my 3 year old autistic child would have finished her meal and a plate may be in the sink but nothing was ever left over night. They say they have email that we have poor housekeeping which resulted in infestation. Not sure what I can do for now but I cannot afford to pay for what they are charging. Is this legal and should or can I fight this? Any suggestions will help. I live in GA

Why not move?
Sounds like "constructive eviction" to me.
Good luck
