Landlord Lies...Can I take him to court?

I received a leasing agreement for an apartment on Friday and was reviewing it over the weekend before signing. It stated all terms of agreement, and even said ''We look forward to you living at x address''. The landlord has agreed to hold it for my roommate and me. On Monday afternoon, I stopped by the apartment to look at it again...someone was moving in. The landlord had lied to me and leased the apartment to someone else-even though I had spoken to him that day about stopping by. Is a verbal agreement the same as a written agreement in Georgia?

It does not sound as though you had a verbal contract to hold the place open a couple of days because it does not sound like you gave him anything of value for his promise, or any promise of your own. Without such "consideration", there is no contract. If you reasonably relied on his promise and incurred some detriment, he could have liability to you for the cost of that detriment, but that's about it, I'm afraid.
