Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia
Hello, after our lease ended we moved out of the home on November 19th, 2016. We still had possession of the keys because we still had some items left in the home. However, during this time someone broke into the property and stole all of the copper from the home and the landlord is trying to charge us $13k for the damages. The landlord also told us that this is the third time that this has happened and they break in every time a tenant moves out. Can they hold us responsible for this?

It seems unlikely base don the facts in your post. It certainly would have been had you not had the keys. However, unless there is evidence the thieves used those keys somehow or you were somehow involved, I think it would be an uphill battle for the landlord and I doubt they will pursue it.
