Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia
Leasing Manager Requesting Personal Information
My husband and I are renting a townhouse, have lived here two years five months, have never been late with rent payment. We both lost out jobs in September and so far, are managing our finances until we can land jobs. We received a letter on our door the other day requesting us to come to the leasing office and sign a lease agreement, show proof of our income and present the most recent bank statement. We signed a year's lease on April 2004. Our application was supposedly verified when we leased the townhouse. What are our rights? Can the leasing company make us move because we do not have jobs? We believe our neighbors told the leasing agent because we asked our neighbors if they knew any companies hiring in the area and that we were presently looking for employment. Within two weeks, we receive the letter on our door. We are both very scared we will be put on the street. Our rent is current...we do not owe nor are we late.

Re: Leasing Manager Requesting Personal Information
You need to look to the terms of the lease. Presumably, you are on a month-to-month lease and the landlord would have to give you notice in accordance with the lease to terminate the lease and ask you to sign another one.
