Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia

pay rent or quit

I was sent a letter from my landord stating that my lease payment was past due. It said I had 3 days to pay the amt of $1250 OR move. I chose to move, do I still owe the money?

Re: pay rent or quit

Do you have a writtten lease? If so, you owe what your lease says you owe. Most certainly that means the rent up to, and including, the day you moved out and returned possession to the landlord. It also likely includes early termination fees (the norm is 30 or 60 days notice AND a month or two in rent) or allows the landlord to sue for damages for a breach of the lease (perhaps rent until they get a new tenant). If you are asking whether moving out relieves you of lease obligations, the answer is no. Read the lease - it likely includes the information. In the future, read the lease so you know the answers ahead of time.
