Tenant Rights regarding eviction

Our landlord has verbally threatened to evict us from the house we rent. At this point, we have given up on him upholding the promisies he made regarding things such as putting in AC, making garage usable, etc. These promises were also only verbal. If I provide a written 30 day notice to move prior to being served with the notice....I am not certain what I should be doing to protect ourselves and our belongings. I need some direction.
