Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia
Time Limits for Damages?
Good morning,
When ending a lease, does a Landlord have a specific amount of time to inform a tenant of damages that s/he is responsible for financially?
We weren't able to arrange a time (suitable for everyone) to do a walk through of the house that we were renting. Therefore, our landlord did the walk through by himself, and we did ours by ourselves. Also, at the time the lease was signed, he did not have a list of any previous damages already there; therefore, he and my husband just did a basic walk-though.
We ended up going month-to-month, and was officially out by 2-7-05. We haven't heard from him at all, and just want to make sure that this will not hold up our deposit.
Thanks!

Re: Time Limits for Damages?
The landlord has 30 days to return your deposit or itemize the damages for which money was withheld. Whether a walk-through was required depends on the number of rental units the landlord owns.
