Can you write a simple note to evict someone or do you have to go through the sheriffs department

You have to provide the appropriate notice to the tenant, then file an eviction proceeding. If an order is entered, the Sheriff or Marshall will then (at some point) enforce the order and dispossess the tenant. This is normally a several week process.
