Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Georgia

attorney holding distribution funds

My divorce attorney is holding funds in his account that were paid by my ex-wife as part of our settlement agreement. The money was for my share of the home equity.

He is trying to withhold nearly three times what my last statement showed as a ''balance'' for legal fees. The last statement i received was 6 months ago. he was previously sending me a statement every 30 days. the case has been nearly two years and for the last six months i've been unable to pay on my account which is why he may have never sent me itemized bills.

I've requested an accounting for the extra money he's requesting but yet to hear back. He is trying to give me a check for the money ''left over'' after he deducts what he says is my balance due to him.

any suggestions?

thanks

Since you have asked for an accounting and itemized bill, see what his response is.
