Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Georgia

cash advance on lawsuite

I was hurt on my job and will never be able to return to work because the doctor accidently paralyzed me. I've been out of work almost two years and have exhausted all of my finances and my creditor and mortgage companies are becoming impatient with me. I'm awaiting several lawsuites and the medical malpractice lawyer says it would be illegal and he could loose his license if his firm gave me a loan/advance.

Is this true?

Can you give me any advice on First American Finance Corporation? They provide cash advances on lawsuites.

Re: cash advance on lawsuite

Your lawyer is certainly not responsible for giving you any sort of cash advance, nor in securing financing for you while you await results on your lawsuit.

Taking out debt on your lawsuit sounds like a mistake, because it's not at all clear that you're going to win. These companies are in business to make money off of your settlement, and they're not going to lend money if they're not reasonably sure of getting it back int eh short-term.

if you've exhausted all of your finances, then look into public assistance.
