Is it illegal for a cop to tell someone who knows me what I have been arrested for?

No. Arrest records and criminal charges are public information in this country [excluding juveniles] and anyone is entitled to know, and to find out from any source.

It is not unlawful for a police office to report the true facts of an arrest or criminal charge to anyone who inquires.
