Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Georgia
Recently I had a bad experience with a divorce attorney. The attorney basically sent me an email stating that she was not available to handle my case due to her heavy case load, then proceeded to try and push me off to another attorney. When I asked her about refunding my deposit she stated that she would not because she did work for my case that justifies her keeping lt. I had only met with the attorney twice for a few minutes and the during the second meeting she had me wait 15 minutes while she took care of a personal matter on the phone. Overall communication with the attorney was limited as she did not respond in a timely fashion to most of my calls/emails and sometimes didn't respond at all. When I told her that she needed to represent me because I paid my nonrefundable deposit she never responded. I had to file a concern with my legal plan. She then claimed she dropped me because I was rude to her and her staff which is not true. I posted a negative review on a legal website about my experience and now she is accusing me of defamation and wants me to remove my review. I need legal advice concerning this matter.

No one here has heard both sides to analyze what was or was not okay, but if your goal was a refund, you've done everything to date wrong (except for the complaint with the legal plan. Interestingly you neglected to post how much your deposit was, which is required to give you a god answer here. The thing you could have done to seek a refund would have been to file with the state bar fee arbitration program. You still may want to do that. As to reviews, be very careful as to what you post. While opinions are okay, there is sometimes the risk of a defamation case.
