Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Georgia

I was in hospital for kidney stone removal and was to stay overnight for observation. I wound up staying 20 days due to Dr. rupturing artery in kidney and had to have 5 units of blood. My heart stopped twice according to Dr. Blood pressure fell to 44 over27. Hospital bill was $148000. my 2 ins. cos. Paid and hospital says I still owe $1200. I did nothing to cause this big bill. I am 75 yrs. old and live on S.S. I am not able to pay this and feel I shouldn't have to pay since I didn't cause the excessive bill. What is your opinion?

You are very fortunate to have that small a bill given the amount of the original bill, and it sounds like you clearly owe it. Many hospitals have orograms to waivebills for low income patients, so askthebillingdepartment for that paperwork, If you have other debt you may also consider bankruptcy (see a lawyer if that's the case).
