Legal Question in Military Law in Georgia

Active JAG officer practicing in private practice

Is it illegal for an active JAG officer to enter into a partnership with a lawfirm, receive pay and benefits from both civilian and military?

If illegal, what could the consequences be for both the officer and lawfirm?

If illegal, who would you report these actions to?

If illegal, what kinds of proof would be needed?

Is there a statute of limitations?

There are federal and Department of Defense regulations on outside employment. Each service also has regulations for "moonlighting" that apply to all service members.

Suspected violations of the Joint Ethics Regulation can be reported to the person's commander or to the various DoD hotlines.

The consequences of violating the regulations could range from administrative counseling to court-martial depending on the facts and circumstances.
