Slander laws

Could someone tell me about the laws on ''slander'' in the state of Georgia? I have heard that if you are trying to ruin the reputation of another person by false statements you can be sue,same for Georgia?

An attempt to ruin the reputation of another by false statements published for that purpose can be the basis for a suit in the state of Georgia, as in most other states.

The method, manner and proof of such a slanderous communication are the sum and substance of the claim and must be carefully considered before deciding to maintain such an action.

Also very important to the decision to proceed or not is the question of the expense involved in the litigation and the potential for recovery.
