There is no such thing as "a usual amount for pain and suffering" in ANY case. The law says that that is up to the "enlightened conscience of a fair and impartial jury". That means that a jury can award whatever it wants. That, in turn, means if, as I am guessing, you are trying to settle with an insurance company, you will get whatever you can get by being the squeaky wheel. Actually, you can help your case greatly by documenting as much "special damages" (i.e., lost wages, medical bills, prescriptions, etc.) as you can which were legitimately incurred, whether you actually went out of pocket for them or not. In other words, even if you were reimbursed by insurance, you can still total these damages.
