Legal Question in Personal Injury in Georgia
My wife and I live in Georgia. She is now 25. She had an accident when she was 17 years in her parents car covered by their insurance. There was a one day lapse in the insurance so the company would not pay the other person involved for the damages. In return they sued. Now it is seven years later and we are married and we thought the lawsuit was payed off, but we were suprised to find a notice of a suspended liscence in the mail from the state of Ga because of the suit not being payed off. My question is how can her liscence be taken away if she was a minor at 17 and her parents were the ones responsible for paying on the debt all this time? And also is there a 7 year limit on debt collection in ga when it is dealing with a suit? What should be my next step in resolving this because the lawyer wants 500 dollars to get it reinstated?

She will not be able to drive for life, unless she pays the damages off or bankrupts (if this is the type claim she can bankrupt against).
The adult rules for a license apply to her, and since she chose to drive without insurance, she is the one responsible to pay the claim. There is no statute of limitations on such a claim.
If the claim is large, a bankruptcy may be her best option. Have her call me to discuss that.
