Abandoned Property

2 plus yrs ago I purchased the home my girlfriend was living in. We have been married 1 yr now. Her ex left some personal property in the home for 2 yrs prior to my purchase. Now he wants all his property. Since it was left for 4 yrs now and I purchased the home 1 year prior to our marriage I think the items belong to me. Do I have to allow him to come get them? Can I charge him fair value for storage fees for the period of time he has left them at this property if I have to return them?

Just give him his stuff back, and move on. That is the easy solution. As for storage, you didn't say what it is but if it is something that was stuck in a corner somewhere that had no effect on your ability to enjoy the house, just give it back. Issues like this are rarely worth the arguments they cause, and just prolong bad blood. Why cause trouble with your wife's ex (probably putting her in the middle of a dispute over nothing)?
