Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

My brother in law died a few days ago with the home mortgage in his name only. My sister does not want to stay in the house but will be getting a substantial life insurance settlement. If she just moves and mails them the keys can she be held accountable finicially. It's in Georgia if it matters.
