Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia
Can a building be erected in front of our condo to block view?
I am looking to purchase a condo in Midtown Atlanta. The unit, that I am interested in, is on the third floor and has great views of the city. Currently, on the street level, in front of the our window are two one-story commercial spaces. Both are currently occupied by high-profile retail tenants. At present, we have a great view. I am concerned, that at some point, these buildings could be turned down, and in there places will go taller structures. This would destroy our view and be terrible for our property value. How do I go about finding out the likelyhood of this scenerio ever happening? Who do I talk to? Is there some zoning commission? Thank you in advance for your help.

There is a zoning commission, but they would not necessarily know about future plans. Additionally, the owner of the building may not need a variance to build a high-rise structure. Basically, there is no way to know whether the building will be increased and you probably won't be able to do anything legally about it anyway.
